By KANE COUNTY CHRONICLE - [email protected]

car seat safety check

SOUTH ELGIN – Car seat inspections and safety information will be provided from 9 a.m. to noon July 13 at Honest1 Auto Care of South Elgin at 660 N. La Fox St.

More than 90% of car seats are installed improperly, according to a news release. State trooper Elizabeth Clausing will lead the safety event and provide tips to parents and drivers.

Clausing will walk attendees through different types of car seats, and provide tips on how to manage multiple kids in the car, where car seats should go, and how to install them. She also will cover how to inspect a car seat to make sure it is not expired or recalled.

Honest1 Auto of South Elgin will have a technician there to help with additional safety demonstrations, in addition to offering Popsicles and coloring activities for kids.

Can you describe your automotive background?

I’ve been in the automotive industry for 12 years. I was around it as a child. My father did repairs in the backyard and the garage. I gave it a try at junior college. The first two years were hands on, we learned how to repair vehicles and how they worked. But I didn’t really enjoy it.

The summer before I graduated, I got an internship with Firestone Complete Auto Care in the summer of 2007. That went really well, I pretty much fell in love with that part of the industry and this business.

In August 2018, I was interviewed for this opportunity (with Honest-1 Auto Care). I took it and I haven’t looked back ever since.

What is the most important thing people should do regarding vehicle maintenance?

An oil change is for sure the most important. But don’t forget to schedule maintenance.

Do you have a dream car?

Funny thing is, I am not a car guy. It would definitely be a luxury car with all the bells and whistles. I would not be picky with the manufacturer or brand. Probably only because I believe in them, I would probably go with a Lexus of some kind.

Do you have a favorite restaurant in the Elgin area?

Nella's Beef (on South McLean Boulevard) is really good.

What is one thing people may not know about you?

Recycling is very important to me. My wife and I, when we go out for a walk we typically bring a garbage bag with us and we’ll pick up stuff on the trail. That is, for sure, something people don’t know about me.

If you met your 10-year-old self today, what would you tell him?

See every commitment through, don’t leave stuff unfinished, whether it’s a hobby, a sport, a class, education.

Is there a talent you don’t have that you wish you did?

I’d like to be able to use my left hand and right hand the same, to be ambidextrous.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Time travel. I’d like to go back in time.

What’s a perfect day for you?

Well, the weather has a lot to do with it. Warm and sunny, not too humid.

What TV show/s are you watching right now?

"Mr. Robot" is a show I saw all the way through. I just started "Billions".
("Mr. Robot") kept me wanting to binge watch it. I had to pull myself back to not just sit there and binge! Shows like that really catch my attention.
